SPEED TASTING REPORT AGRI-CULTURED The Brand: CROP ORGANIC CUCUMBER VODKA Crop Harvest Earth Vodkas are USDA- certified organic artisanal vodkas produced from grain grown on America's plains, distilled so efficiently that no carbon treatment or charcoal filtering is required. On the nose and palate, Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka delivers the pleasure of freshly sliced cucumbers, an ingredient currently setting trends with chefs and bar chefs. The cocktail, the Eddie Albert, refers to the actor who played the male lead on television's Green Acres, a classic show about a Manhattan couple who move to rural America. Our Panel says: "Crisp, fresh and super tart for end-of- summer and into fall." —Linh Pham Nina Pilacoutas, bartender at Watershed in Chicago, came up with the recipes for Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka and Farmer's Gin. "Beautiful, understated and simple in the best possible way. One of the best of the day." —Eric Hay The Drink: Eddie Albert ◗ 1½ oz. Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka ◗ 1½ oz. fresh cucumber juice ◗ 1 oz. honey syrup ◗ 1 oz. lime juice ◗ Garnish with a slice of cucumber. DREAMING OF PARK AVENUE The Brand: FARMER'S ORGANIC GIN Farmer's Organic Gin is produced with a proprietary selection of botanicals including juniper, elderflower, lemongrass, coriander and angelica root, among others. This handcrafted organic gin is 93.4 proof and offers balanced flavors that set the tone for the glamorously pink Eva Gabor cocktail. Gabor was the female lead on Green Acres, a socialite from New York City who compromised her city life to move to the farm with her husband. Farmer's Gin is made by the producers of Crop Harvest Earth, both marketed through Chatham Imports. Our Panel says: "Inviting, from its salmon hue to the lush notes of juniper and herbs, which give way to a smacking grapefruit finish." —Pat Brophy "Great example of a stirred gin cocktail, using a well-made ver- mouth to complement the botani- cals." —Eric Hay The Drink: Eva Gabor ◗ 1½ oz. Farmer's Organic Gin ◗ 1 oz. extra dry vermouth ◗ ½ oz. Breckenridge Bitters ◗ op with splash of grapefruit juice and garnish with grapefruit peel. 106 / the tasting panel / september 2012
