SPRING 2017 | wyoea.org 7 Greg Herold Southeast Region UniServ Director gherold@wyoea.org A big "thank you" to all our members who helped recruit new members to our Association in our Grab 3 pro-rated dues campaign. While our numbers were a bit lower than last year, understandable due to the financial concerns of the state and the difficult legislative session, Grab 3 continues to add members to our Association and remains a core part of our recruitment effort statewide. If nothing else, this financial downturn shows us that educators—classified and certified—need to be a united front as we move forward with public education in Wyoming. April 1st starts WEA's Early Enrollment membership effort. This is a chance to "take the Association for a spin" this spring. Open only to those individuals who have not yet been a member at any point in their career, early enrollees can join now and not pay dues until next fall with limitations on some services provided. With all the activities locals are doing in the spring (bargaining, socials, end of the year activities, etc.), this is an excellent opportunity for us to show our potential members why they should be part of our Association. Last, but certainly not least, is our preparation for next fall's Early Career Educator recruiting effort. An Early Career Educator, or ECE, is defined as an individual who is in her/his first five years of the profession. Data show that almost half of these educators leave the profession during this time. Sharing the role of our Association in supporting and mentoring these individuals is a key component of retaining them in our schools. You may be familiar with "the card" some locals used last year to gather information of the ECEs in their local. Expect this card, used to identify concerns and issues of our ECEs, to be used in more locals this fall as we work to support our new educators in Wyoming. New members can fill the card out online at: http://wyoea.org/membership-forms-links-important-information/ …And Speaking of Membership I T ' S C O M I N G Summer 2017 NEA Tentative Training to Begin in Your Locals
