NAB 2017 NEWS www.postmagazine.com 39 POST MARCH 2017 SONY'S OPTICAL DISC ARCHIVE GENERATION 2 AND RAIDS PARK RIDGE, NJ — Sony (www.sony.com/professional) is offering a range of storage solutions, including its Optical Disc Archive Generation 2 System and 4TB and 6TB RAIDs. The company's Optical Disc Archive Generation 2 System adopts new, high-capacity optical media, rated with a 100-year shelf life with double the transfer rate and double the capacity of a single cartridge at 3.3TB. The Generation 2 Optical Disc Archive System also introduces an 8-channel optical drive unit, doubling the read/write speeds of the previous generation, helping to meet the data needs of realtime 4K production. In addition, Sony's expanding line of professional storage technologies includes two distinctive, rugged and portable RAID (dual 3.5 inch HDD) products for ultra-fast data transfer on location in 6TB (PSZ-RA6T) and 4TB (PSZ-RA4T) capac- ities. Sony's RAIDs have the transfer speeds and high perfor- mance needed for 4K production and deliver high-capacity content workflow options from the field to the studio. Sony's offerings are optimized for the transport, back-up and quick transfer of content on-the-go, and are equipped to handle the demanding file requirements of 4K production. They offer rapid transfer speeds of up to 440MB/s (read/ write), reducing the transfer time for all files, including large 4K video files. The systems support multiple workflows and feature con- nectivity options including USB 3.0 and two Thunderbolt 2 ports, compati- bility with several RAID modes including RAID 0, RAID 1 and JBOD. Users can also daisy chain up to six units via Thunderbolt. QUANTUM TO SHOWCASE ENHANCEMENTS TO STORAGE SOLUTIONS SAN JOSE, CA — Quantum (www.quantum.com) will highlight its enhanced Xcellis workflow storage solutions and unveil new shared-archive workflow architectures that enable distributed teams to collaborate worldwide through digital content libraries. New 4K reference architectures for Quantum's Xcellis, scaled for facilities small to large, are expected to be un- veiled. In the testing, all Xcellis solutions handled robust 4K workloads, reflecting capabilities for streaming 4K to collaborative teams of content creators. The testing included characterization of large- and small-form-factor disk drives, a variety of array configurations and a full complement of compressed and uncompressed 4K formats. In addition, Quantum will demonstrate how Xcellis leverages the power of StorNext and the performance of all- flash arrays to get the most out of both technologies. Also at NAB 2017, the company will showcase new capabilities that allow multiple StorNext-powered collaborative workflows located anywhere around the world to access the same archive target. Any user within a StorNext environment can access, browse and pull files from the shared archive. A creative team member working in one city can create content that is automatically stored to the archive and immediately available for further work by team members working elsewhere. Quantum is expected to highlight its FlexTier cloud access feature as well, which makes it easy to integrate existing public cloud storage accounts and third-par- ty object storage (private cloud) into a StorNext environment and into familiar media workflows, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, NetApp StorageGRID, IBM Cleversafe and Scality RING as archive tiers. TELESTREAM TO DEMO SOLUTIONS FOR VIDEO FROM INGEST TO SCREEN NEVADA CITY, CA — At NAB 2017, Telestream (www.telestream.net) will be demoing a full complement of tools to move video from ingest to any screen: efficiently handling the latest formats and standards, including HDR, IMF, 4K and UHD, integrating social media into the broadcast workflow, and monetizing content through live event and live linear streaming. Telestream will demo how its Vantage Media Processing Platform streamlines opera- tions and creates new revenue streams by orchestrating discrete tasks. Vantage allows users to ingest, edit, transcode, QC, package, monetize and distribute media. It currently supports HDR, UltraHD and 4K and IMF. A particular focus for Telestream will be live video streaming — it will demonstrate how to achieve enterprise-class live capture and content streaming with its Lightspeed Live Stream and Lightspeed Live Capture applications. Lightspeed Live Stream solves the problem of preparing realtime content for adaptive bitrate live event and live linear streaming while Lightspeed Live Capture can independently ingest multiple channels of SD or HD or a single channel of UHD. Streaming live content via Facebook has become a critical method of connecting with viewers. Telestream addresses that need with Wirecast Gear, its new turnkey system optimized to run the company's popular Wirecast live streaming production software. Featuring Facebook Live as a streaming destination, Wirecast allows users to create and stream high-production value broadcasts from their computers to their Facebook timelines with just a few clicks. For organizations looking to add social media distribution to their broadcast, cable and over-the-top video workflows, Telestream will showcase its Social Media Solution, which enables marketing professionals to easily post video, text and images to multiple social media destinations including YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Vimeo, Facebook and Brightcove.
