BITS & PIECES www.postmagazine.com 8 POST MARCH 2017 AVID TO UNVEIL EDITING, STORAGE, GRAPHICS AND AUDIO SOLUTIONS AT NAB 2017 BURLINGTON, MA — At this year's NAB Show in Las Vegas, Avid (www. avid.com) will be unveiling a number of new features to its full range of editing, storage, graphics and audio solutions. Avid Media Composer | PhraseFind Option is a new version of the dialogue indexing and search option for Media Composer, which enables users to quickly find all rel- evant clips by simply typing a word or phrase. PhraseFind automatically analyzes all clips in a project and pho- netically indexes all audible dialog. The company's new ScriptSync Option is a dialogue search and sync option for Media Composer that pho- netically indexes all text and audible dialogue in a project and syncs each source clip to its associated line in the script. Users can quickly locate all relevant clips based on scene num- ber, page number or word or phrase search. Avid Dialogue Search makes it easy to quickly find and preview any media clip based on spoken words or phrases. Users simply type any combi- nation of words or phrases, and Avid Dialogue Search will locate every clip that contains those spoken words in seconds — across all available storage and archives. Avid 4Designer 1.2, the company's graphics authoring software, features user interface enhancements that maintain existing customer work- flows and product knowledge, while introducing new workflow improve- ments and graphical features that enrich the artist's toolset. It offers a complete solution for creating 2D and 3D motion graphics in a wide range of resolutions. Avid Pro Tools 12.7 features new music creation workflows and col- laboration improvements for audio pros that include Soundbase, which improves searching and creative exploration of loop and sound effect libraries, a 2GB high-quality sample li- brary from Loopmasters and Revision History to create and manage multi- ple versions of projects powered by the cloud. Avid Pro Tools | MTRX, the new audio interface for Pro Tools | HDX and HD Native — developed by Digital Audio Denmark for Avid — gives Pro Tools users the superi- or sonic quality of DAD's legendary AD and DA converters — along with flexible monitoring, I/O and routing capabilities, all in one unit. Also, Avid NEXIS | E5, covered in this month's Storage Supplement (beginning at page 20), the compa- ny's enterprise-class, hyper-dense storage engine, offers realtime editorial collaboration and high levels of scalability, performance and client connections. It provides 40GbE con- nectivity and 80 to 480TB of storage capacity per engine, with the ability to scale up to 1.4PB of capacity and 9.6GBps of bandwidth. DREAM T&S RELEASES 3D SCAN/CAD DATA POINTSHAPE INSPECTOR SOFTWARE REPUBLIC OF KOREA — Dream T&S, a Korean-based software devel- oping company founded in April 2005, recently released high-per- forming 3D Scan/CAD data inspecting software PointShape Inspector (www.pointshape.com), capable of importing most major CAD for- mats to inspect deviation and conduct required measurements. Key Features include: Best Fit (Scan to CAD), Mesh Creation, Native CAD Format Support, CAD to Mesh, Measurement, Report Creation : PDF. DreamT&S had launched the first version of PointShape (MicroStation add-ins) in 2010, which was designed for 3D modeling using the point cloud obtained by Long Range Scanners. In 2012, the company introduced PointShape (AutoCAD add-ins) and in 2013 PointShape Tunnel Surveying, which compares CAD and tunnel scan data. Due to a rising market demand for comparing and verifying 3D CAD data with 3D Scan data, DreamT&S has developed PointShape Surveyor for civil sur- veying in 2016. In 2017, PointShape Inspector was released, which is designed for me- chanical 3D scan data inspection. SOFIA, BULGARIA — Chaos Group (chaosgroup.com) has released V-Ray 3.5 for 3DS Max, a free update to the CPU and GPU renderer that offers nine major features and a number of perfor- mance improvements. To solve the long-time challenge of rendering scenes with many lights, Chaos Group reports that its R&D team has written a new Adaptive Lights algorithm that drastically speeds up render times. After extensive testing on architectural interiors and large environments with hundreds or even thousands of lights, benchmarking results show that Adaptive Lights can be up to seven times faster, depending on the scene. "We've been testing V-Ray's new Adaptive Lights on the GPU, and we're impressed by the results," says Tomasz Wyszołmirski, studio director at Dabarti. "In one of our scenes, render times were seven times faster than be- fore — a 54-minute render dropped to 7.5 minutes with Adaptive Lights. The difference is amazing." Key features include: Interactive production rendering, fully interactive production rendering with immediate feedback; Glossy Fresnel, new, phys- ically-accurate reflection model adds more realism to any scene; Resumable rendering, ability to stop and contin- ue rendering at any point, preserving work and saving time. It supports both progressive and bucket render- ing. Live VR rendering, which allows user to render directly to Oculus Rift or HTC Vive with full GPU accelera- tion, is also a new feature. Users can visualize changes within the headset as they are made in 3DS Max. CHAOS GROUP RELEASES V-RAY 3.5 FOR 3DS MAX Avid 4Designer
