Bits & Pieces Cedar ups app for sound restoration C AMBRIDGE, UK — Cedar (www.cedaraudio.com) has released Cambridge V8, the latest version of its audio restoration tool, which boasts numerous upgrades and improvements, including video playback support. This allows users to extract and process audio content from a range of A/V formats and view the visual content in a separate win- dow while processing. Users can view up to eight A/V files simultaneously while analyzing and processing the audio con- tained within them. At the architectural level, Cambridge V8 offers an expand- ed file processing system, with new region categories that enhance its ability to perform independent processing on multiple regions of audio. The system also includes improved output mapping, an expanded hot keys section, and it has been upgraded to play, record and process at 192kHz. Retouch 5 introduces previewing and a new volume mode, which allow users to process — and listen exclusively to — selected areas of the spectrogram. There's also a new Pitch Shifter in Patch and Copy modes. Respeed is now capable of creating a speed correction template using one audio file and applying it to another. The Adaptive Limiter has been enhanced to apply even more limiting while retaining the integrity of the original audio. The Power Normalizer features two further loudness standards making it more flexible for broadcast and cinematic production. Cambridge V8 is now available. It runs on legacy Cambridge Q systems as well as the latest Cam- bridge Series III hardware running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Matrox introduces Thunderbolt product M ONTREAL — Matrox (www.matrox.com) has introduced the DS1, a Thunderbolt docking sta- tion that offers the benefits of a desktop computer to MacBook and Ultrabook users. One SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, a microphone input and a speaker/headphone output are also provided via the DS1, which is priced at $249. The unit will be available in September.
