The Ted character was brought to life with the help of Berkeley, CA's Tippett Studio and Melbourne, Australia's Iloura — both studios manipulated data that was captured on set. McFarland (who voices Ted as well as directs the film) wore the Xens MVN full-body, camera-less inertial motion capture system, which allowed him to be funny on set (indoors and outside) as opposed to within the confines of a mocap volume.
