may 2016 / the tasting panel / 3 A Local Staple at PS450, New York City At PS450, a popular neighborhood bar in the lower Midtown/roughly Flatiron section of Manhattan, ABSOLUT is just like one of the characters in Cheers: always has a seat at the bar. A local mainstay for 11 years, the bar draws an after-work crowd as well as local residents with its low-key and updated old-school vibe. Here, brunch is the main draw, extending throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday, and where ABSOLUT rules the bar in classic Bloody Marys. But a revival of the Moscow Mule is keeping up with the bar's mission of classic and in step with trend. David Miller, Director of Operations at the restaurant, which serves casual American fare, says the ABSOLUT Mule has been one of their best sellers in the summer and into the fall. It's been a happy hour favorite. "Anything with ginger beer is going to fly," says Miller. ABSOLUT has been the go-to vodka at the bar for some time, and Miller said now that the flavored trend has kicked back a little, they've stuck with those that make the most sense for their cocktail menu: Citron, Mandrin, Pear, Ruby Red and Mango. Coming up this summer: ABSOLUT Mandrin Mist cocktail for happy hour and one of their long-standing summer specialty cocktails, the Lychee-tini, made with an ABSOLUT base.
