11 STORAGE SOLUTIONS MARCH 2016 STORAGE SOLUTIONS SGL IMPROVES FLASHNET, ADDS LTO-7 SUPPORT FAREHAM, UK – Software Generation, Ltd. (www. sglbroadcast.com), a provider of content archive and storage management software for media and entertainment, has introduced the latest version of its FlashNet content management system, as well as support for LTO-7. The new version of FlashNet provides media companies with additional workflow opportunities and greater flexibility. The new FlashNet now supports reading and restor- ing from SMPTE's Archive eX- change Format (AXF). Flash- Net can read and process AXF objects, providing greater flexibility for cus- tomers, ensuring long term availability of content in the future regardless of technology evolution. "This latest version of FlashNet further improves productivity for customers and is a warm up to the big FlashNet launch at NAB 2016," explains Lee Sheppard, director of product management. STORAGE NEWS ities are making their way into 4K TVs that consumers can buy now, video streaming services are getting on board, and 4K displays generally do a good job up-rez- zing from 2K. The bad news is that broadcast HDR content lags behind, largely because the US broadcast system simply isn't equipped to support either 4K or HDR. As more and more consumers adopt HDR-capa- ble TVs, however, the momentum will likely pick up and fuel large-scale equipment and workflow upgrades to support HDR. By radically boosting image quality even where bandwidth is limited, HDR has the greatest potential to deliver the beauty that's widely expected of 4K Viewers may not be able to distinguish between more pixels and better pixels, but in the long run it may not matter. With the new Ultra HD standard, the industry can deliver both, provided the workflows for content creation and delivery are prepared. Lee Sheppard SONNET SHOWS THUNDERBOLT 3 PRODUCT IRVINE, CA — Sonnet Technologies (www.sonnettech. com) will be at the April NAB show with its first prod- ucts featuring Thunderbolt 3 technology. The Fusion Thunderbolt 3 PCIe flash drive is a rugged, pocket-sized solid-state (SSD) storage device that's capable of trans- ferring data at speeds of over 2,000MB/s. The unit is equipped with 512GBs of flash storage and can be used as an ultra-fast alternative to portable SATA-based hard disk drives, SSD storage devices, and USB thumb drives. The Fusion flash drive connects to any Windows computer with a Thunderbolt 3 port via an attached 0.5-meter Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) cable. Measuring just 2.8 inches wide by 4.1 inches deep by 1.25 inches tall, the Fusion Thunderbolt 3 PCIe flash drive features a fan-less aluminum enclosure that enables silent operation. The device is bus-powered and requires no power adapter. Also at NAB will be xMac Pro Server and xMac mini rackmounts for Mac Pro and Mac mini computers with Thunderbolt 2-to-PCI Express (PCIe) expansion. ELEMENTS SHOWCASES GATEWAY SERVER AT BVE DUSSELDORF, GERMANY — Elements (www.ele ments.tv), developer of solutions for unrestricted collab- oration in shared media workflows, recently showcased its Elements Gateway server at BVE in London. Elements Gateway's field-proven file server technol- ogy presents the media & entertainment industry with the ability to connect workstations, including Avid Medi- aComposer to Quantum's Xcellis workflow storage pow- ered by StorNext 5, while providing native Avid Project Sharing and Avid Bin-locking support.
