Many people have taken the time to work with me, to train me, and to educate me on the issues that face us as Public Educators and Support Professionals. I commit to continue observing, to learning, and speaking on behalf of Educators and ESP in our State. I ask for your strong consideration and your support as I request an extension on this "contract" in representing Region 4 on the AEA Board. The issues facing us at the moment – State Funding, Certifications, AZLearns, State Training Requirements, privatization as examples – are daunting, but not insurmountable. They face me as an individual trying to earn a professional living in the northern are of Maricopa County, as they face all of us. We turn to our State Association and then we realize WE ARE the State Association – a collective group who elect and hire individuals to coordinate our activities and interests. I have proven I have the capabilities to represent the Members of our Region and would appreciate the opportunity to continue in this essential role. I thank AEA for the time and energy that you have invested in me as a Leader. It is my hope I am providing a return on that investment by taking a stand for Public Education and our Members as an Alternate AEA Director for Region 4. I was elected as an Alternate Director three years ago and was formally seated on the board for the past year. I have learned a great deal in the past year. It is my goal to be more than just a conduit of information, but also as a person who can be on the ground to help. My primary role in my local is to represent members in their time of need. I want to help further develop this skill in our locals so we can better serve our members while engaging in the issues that matter to them. There are many forces attacking our organization and our profession. Whether you are an education support professional, an educator or an administrator, we need to stand united for public education and work place rights. Please allow me to continue this hard work as your AEA Region 5 director. Name: Laurie Richards Address: 3130 W.
