A S S O C I AT I O N G OV E R NA N C E REGION 5 DIRECTOR, Laurie Richards, continued Elective positions held: AEA Regional Director Alternate, Region 5, 2009-2011 AEA Region 5 Director, 2011-2012 WDEA Vice President, 2009-2010 Appointive positions held: WDEA Advocacy Chairperson, 2010-current AEA Resolutions Committee, 2010-current AEA QTL Committee, 2009-2010 REGION 6 DIRECTOR Marisol Garcia I am excited to be a candidate for Region 6 AEA Regional Director. For the past two years I have been honored as the alternate Region 6 director under Jason Schnee. I have attended several board meetings as the alternate director, when Jason was unable to. This was an enlightening process, one that I was glad to fulfill. As Jason leaves office, I am excited to once again have the opportunity to represent Region 6. Over the past few years, I was fortunate enough to be elected as the NEA Hispanic Caucus Western Regional Director, the AEA Ethnic Minority Caucus chair, and was appointed to co-chair the AEA Legislative task force. As the local President of Isaac District Elementary Association for the last three years, I have been involved in many changes on a local level that I believe gives me experience to represent the seven other locals. My district has been through numerous administration and Governing Board changes, we have dealt with major attendance changes, and have organized and won two override campaigns. Like all the locals in the state, IDEA has had to deal with changes in RIF protocols, the recreation of Teacher- Evaluation rubrics, the necessity of 'flipping' our members to the new dues collection program and I am proud to say that IDEA is strong! I am hopeful that through my experiences as the alternate Director, as an up and coming leader in AEA, and a local president, I am the best candidate for regional Director. As your director, I have worked diligently to see the organization as a whole and taken your voice to the state level while making the difficult decisions necessary to make us all a better AEA. In this role, I have consistently listened to the voices of our members, taking these numerous conversations into consideration while serving as a continuous advocate at the state level, diligently representing you and your concerns. As your director, I have been given the opportunity to speak on your behalf to legislators, members, and other local leaders helping them to see who we are and what we represent. I ask for your vote in helping this level of service and dedication continue for our region. Trust that I will remain steadfast as I always have, standing up for our values and commonalities to ensure that you have a consistent, knowledgeable advocate on the state board.
