NEA STATE DIRECTOR (CONTINUED) A S S O C I AT I O N G OV E R NA N C E NEA ALTERNATE STATE DIRECTOR Rachel Stafford Over the past 10 years I have been leading up to this moment. Every experience I have had has built me as a leader and given me the skill set to be ready for this position. I have spoken to legislators, I have helped make difficult decisions for the organization as a whole, I have engaged in the hard conversations that need to happen to ensure the health of the organization. All of these roles have resulted in becoming experienced, proficient, and adroit in how to take these actions to the national level. As a national board certified teacher, local and state leader, and dedicated advocate for our profession, I am confident that I have what you need as a voice that moves our profession forward. It is now time to take these discussions, experience, and skill set to the national level and help to make us the best NEA, standing strong together. Thank you for your vote of confidence in me to be your voice on the NEA board of directors, thank you for your trust, thank you for knowing that I will do what it takes to work diligently and tenaciously for you and our profession ... because YOU matter! In 2010 you elected me as your AEA President. Today I ask you for the privilege of also serving as the NEA Alternate State Director. As NEA Alternate State Director, I can ensure that Arizona is represented at the NEA Board of Director meetings should an absence occur for one of our elected NEA State Directors. A lot of years, a long path, and one continuous orientation: Create the best education environment for students and working conditions for those who deliver to them the promise of public education. From long before my first day as an AEA member to today, that focus has found a kindred spirit and solid foundation in AEA's mission, core values, and members. I know that these are chaotic, frightening times; therefore, our work is all the more vital. Nothing about this is easy because all of it is essential. I also know that standing together we can pursue our mission in service to all of our most precious values.
