Situated 200 kilometers (124 miles) west of Melbourne, with a dramatic backdrop of the rugged sandstone Grampians mountain ranges, it is a feast for the eyes and the spirit. Established in 1970, Montara is today owned by the Stapleton family. This dynamic group of six siblings has given Montara a youthful exuber- ance, where tradition meets a new era of winemaking. With Leigh Clarnette as Chief Winemaker, Montara continues to drive innovation and is demanding the attention of influen- tial wine critics, including Jeremy Oliver and James Halliday. THE PITCH Why importers should add Montara Grampians Wines to their portfolio Montara's Jimmy Wines are the wines we believe will sell themselves to Millennials. With a fun, innovative, catchy label, Jimmy is modern Australian, full-bodied and loves a good time. It is cool and funky to be drinking a bottle of Jimmy. The point of difference with wines from our region is the location. Montara is in a cool-climate region with elegant, easy-drinking, food-friendly wines that are vastly different from some of the fruit-forward Barossa wines. Our wines suit a range of palates. Our labels are young, fresh and over-deliver for the price point. Importers can make good margin, particularly with our Jimmy and Raven Park brands. Our Montara Estate Brand was nominated for Winestate Wine of the year and received 4.5 out of 5 stars and our 2012 Shiraz was awarded 91 points from James Halliday. Battle of Bosworth Wines Battle of Bosworth makes organically grown wines from our family vineyards located in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith, the wines take their name from the original Battle of Bosworth, fought on Bosworth Field, Leicestershire, England in 1485. Our approximately 80 hectares of vines are certified 100% Grade A Organic by Australian Certified Organic, and are grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals or fertilizers. We use soursobs (oxalis) to control winter weed growth, and this vibrant yellow flower features on the Battle of Bosworth labels. Battle of Bosworth make wines with flavor, texture, purity and balance that best express the unique characteristics of their McLaren Vale foothills site. THE PITCH Why importers should add Battle of Bosworth to their portfolio Battle of Bosworth has been making wine under the label since 2001 and has achieved consider- able success in our domestic market as well as overseas, most notably the U.K. Our wines are made from our estate-grown organically certified grapes which have an average age of 25+ years. We have been using organic principles in our vineyards since 1995 and have been certified by Australian Certified Organic (ACO P/L) since 1999. We are a family-owned and -run operation and have had experience in the U.S. market with our Spring Seed Wine label, and as such are market-knowledgeable and -ready. We have been actively exporting both our Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed Wines all over the world for well over a decade and understand the importance of time, communication and hard work to build and main- tain a market and its myriad relationships. We are active on social media and actively support all markets using these tools. 32  /  the tasting panel  /  april 2015
