LIQUEURS Mill Six Citrus Fusion Liqueur Mill Six is created in one of the world's premier distilleries, in Schiedam, Holland, family-owned and -operated since its incep- tion in 1777. Enlightened Brands, LLC is sending what they call "The World's Ultimate Citrus Fusion Experience" into the marketplace—a natural with a number of signature cocktails, including the Mill Smash (see recipe). "In beverages you see this proliferation of new flavors. Obviously citrus is the most popular, and that seemed like the right family to be in. But we didn't want to be just another lemon-lime," says Laurie Walsh, VP of Sales and Marketing for Enlightened Brands. "Our inspiration behind creating the brand was to create our own category and to create one product that brings a different flavor experience each time it's consumed. Our company is based on authenticity, real people making a real artisan product—that's what we're all about!" Mill Six Citrus Fusion is a well-balanced and complex spirit with hints of orange, yuzu, lychee and grapefruit on the nose and whole lemon, yuzu and blood orange on the palate. millsix.com SWEET TALK COCKTAIL: Mill Smash ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ 2½ oz. Glayva Liqueur First crafted by Edinburgh whisky merchant Ronald Morrison in 1947, Glayva's secret recipe includes the finest Scotch malt whisky and exotic ingredients from around the world. Glayva (Gaelic for "very good") offers a distinctive taste profile to new and discerning imbibers of specialty liqueurs, accord- ing to Dawn Lambert, Marketing Director of the Americas Region for parent company Whyte & Mackay. "Glayva's sweet and savory profile is offering a new opportunity of flavors to younger and more experimental consum- ers," she says. "The liqueur is already enjoying interna- tional recognition in markets far and wide, including Canada, duty-free, Europe and, of course, Scotland." In my tasting, I really enjoyed Glayva's savory, almost rosemary-like aromas and flavors; I could see this being paired with a double-thick pork chop, garnished with freshly picked rosemary and fresh cracked black pepper. Its texture is satiny-smooth and cocktailians should be motivated to play on its tangerine-heather grassiness. glayva.com 70 / the tasting panel / november 2011 ■ ■ ■ SWEET TALK COCKTAIL: Glayva Cranberry 1 part Glayva 3 parts cranberry juice Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
