Dear Readers, Roses are red, violets are blue, Whole Life Times has another great is- sue for you! Yes, dear readers, romance is alive and well in Southern California, as are love and sex. Once upon a time we expected all three in a single fab pack- age, but now each has its own trajectory and we don't count on their intersection. Which is not to say we don't hope for it! On the plus side, having three separate trajectories triples your chances for satis- faction in at least one aspect of the nev- er-boring dance of the chakras. Pretty much every day and month of the year has been assigned special meaning by our overactive cultural PR machine, and while February 14 has long been Valentine's Day, you may be surprised to know it's now also National Condom Day. Need we tell you why? Despite all efforts to the con- trary, the Centers for Disease Control report that STD rates are on the rise and "cost the U.S. healthcare system about $16 billion every year." (No word on whether or not that includes insurance issued by religious organizations. If birth control isn't covered, maybe it's unnecessary, cause reli- gious people never have risky sex, right?) In addition to using con- doms, it's also a good idea, if you have more than one part- ner, to get tested regularly. Some STDs can cause infertility, and left untreated they wreak all kinds of havoc on your body, not to mention your partner's… and on down the line. End of lecture. This issue is always fun to anticipate. Every issue has its own delights, but there is something about this topic of love and sex that still feels a little forbidden in a Christian culture (see above), which, like it or not, is what we predominantly have. Regular writer Jen Jones Donatelli will introduce you to a few people who've found ways to make sex play into work (or is it work into sex play) or explore non- traditional options. You'll meet some in- teresting folks (pg. 23) and who knows, maybe discover a new career path. There's huge pressure in the media to be having sex all the time, or about to have it, or planning it, but shocking as it may seem, some people are just not that into it. If you're hoping your partner will roll over and let you sleep, you'll defi nitely want to check out Laura Owens' story on sex and the adrenals (pg. 26). If it's your partner who's checking out, can we blame you for wanting to snoop around in his/ her texts (pg. 28)? Lots more sexy stuff in this issue so sit down with a cooling beverage and enjoy. And if you'd like to get in on the action? Please support our advertis- ers so we can keep bringing you great thought-provoking issues with stories by top quality professional writers. You won't fi nd this quality content in any other free magazine in the Southland, and we need your support to keep it happening. When you support our advertisers, you support us. Don't need a product or service? Ask us about sponsoring a newsletter! Whatever you do, don't wait for your life to begin, begin it now! As my friend Patrick—one of the fi rst people I ever hired at Whole Life Times way back when—just learned, you never know what tomorrow may bring. Patrick is a les- son in how to be ill. What- ever painful procedures he has to endure, he always comments on the smiles and gracious demeanor of the medical pro- fessionals surrounding him. He exudes love, and it's clear that it comes back to him over and over. So yes, sex is import- ant and fun, but love will always be what carries us through. Whatever your challenges today, however tough things seem, be grateful that you are healthy, vibrant and beauti- ful. Because you are. Enjoy your juicy life!
