I t all started in 1962 with the presentation of a gold membership card to Eddie Cantor, then a former president of Screen Actors Guild. It began what has become a treasured SAG-AFTRA tradition: The SAG Life Achievement Award. Since then, the award has been given out nearly every year — skipping only 1964 and 1981 — making this year's award to Rita Moreno the 50th to be bestowed.
