Bits & Pieces Discount Daaaah-ble Check C HICAGO — Filmworkers (www.filmworkers.com) provided post services for the latest State Farm spot featuring Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Conceived by Chicago agency DDB, the spot finds Rodgers wedged uncomfortably between a pair of Bears fans during an airline flight. George Wendt and Robert Smigel reprised their roles as Bob and Carl from the classic Saturday Night Live skits for the commercial. The duo of die-hard Bears fans recognize Rodgers as "that discount double check guy," while simultaneously tending to their seat-back grills. State of Turbulence is the latest in a series of State Farm ads to pass through Filmworkers' post pipeline before making their way to air. Colorist Michael Mazur performed final color grading, while VFX director Rob Churchill handled visual effects and editorial finishing. For the closing scene in which the familiar, pudgy Packers fan appears on the plane's wing, Churchill composited the actor into the shot and added sky and wind effects to create a sense of over-the-top realism. Baselight was used for grading, and Autodesk Flame Premium was employed for compositing and VFX. Arts & Sciences produced the spot, with Matt Aselton directing. Cutters' Grant Gustafson and Matt Walsh handled the edit.
