Image Resources to open annex W OODLAND HILLS, CA — Image Resources Film & Video (www.ImageResources.net) is in the process of putting the finishing touches on what the company describes as an oversized "homebase" edit suite that will be designed specifically for longform post, including feature and documentary editorial. The new suite is an annex to Image Resources' existing offline editorial, finishing, and sound facilities. The space includes a large, primary editing room, an assistant/support bullpen, a private office, a private bathroom and an exclusive, secure entry. "Projects that span several months require more than just a couple of rooms in someone's offices or home — they need a private and secure creative and productive space that the editor, director, and support staff can call their own," notes Image Resources' president, Dave Moorman. "We now have an exciting new way to meet that need in a cost-effective way." The West Valley location (on Topanga Canyon by Ventura Boulevard) is conveniently located for directors and editors who live in the Valley, Santa Monica/ Malibu, and points west, like Calabasas, Hidden Hills, and Westlake Village. Encino-based Dan Forer, who directed ESPN Films' documentary Free Spirits, spent eight months at the facility during post production. "Having on-site support was important to me, plus having so many great restaurants and services within walking distance helped keep us comfortable and focused on the creative process," says Forer. According to Moorman, Forer's project was the catalyst for building the new suite, "An exclusive space with all the benefits of being associated with a full post facility was the natural extension for a project of this type." Equipment packages can include Avid Media Composer 7, various shared storage configurations, Symphony, DaVinci Resolve, and 5.1 audio post. RPS & Land Rover Race the Sun S ANTA MONICA — Rock Paper Scissors (www.rockpaperscissors.com) recently cut a new interactive Web film for Land Rover. Race the Sun is a suspenseful 2:30 video that's part of the automaker's "Driven to Another Level" campaign, which introduces the 2014 Range Rover Sport. Viewers can choose how they want to engage with the film, either by syncing their smartphones, thereby turning it into a game controller and second screen experience, or by using their computer keyboard. Viewers can also have the full experience by using their tablet. WebSocket technology allows viewers to sync their smartphone to the film as it plays, enabling them to view the footage and experience the game on their device in realtime. Viewers are able to tilt, tap and swipe their touchscreens to match the maneuvers of the Range Rover Sport in three distinct gaming experiences that play out in tandem with the dramatic storyline. Race the Sun also features a 360-degree interior and exterior experience of the Range Rover Sport, which was developed by Y&R NYC and Wunderman NY. Danté Ariola directed the project and Stinkdigital also contributed. Ted Guard at Rock Paper Scissors cut the Web film on an Avid. Land Rover teased an abridged version of the game through a series of homepage takeovers, including ESPN, The New York Times and YouTube. Editorial boutique Kind opens in NYC N EW YORK  — Kind (www.kindedit.com), a new creative editorial boutique, has opened in New York's Union Square district. Led by two veteran editors — executive producer Wendy Rosen and senior editor Jeremy Baumann — the shop will work on a range of editorial projects, from short form to long form, including spots, music videos, TV, and Webisodes. Kind was created via a partnership with AE|Media, the parent company of AudioEngine,AudioEngine|West and Broadcasters. Rosen, who began as an editor at New York's Mad River Post, owned her own editorial boutique, Three Fingered Louie, before moving back into staff positions at Red Car and Jump. When AE|Media CEO Bob Giammarco approached her about housing the new shop, she jumped at the chance to get back into a more managerial role.  "My desire in starting this venture was fueled by my love of the business side of post," Rosen says. "The full scope of how you approach a project and having a vision that was wider than being in the room is just the challenge I was looking for. While my main focus is executive producing, I am still editing."  Senior editor Baumann is an experienced comedy editor with an affinity for working with visual effects and dialogue. He started his career at Red Car, where he met Rosen, and was most recently at Click 3X, where he sought out the opportunity to work with Flame artists, designers, greenscreen, and CG.  "I wanted to expand my toolset," Baumann says. After three-plus years at Click 3X the opportunity came to work with Rosen again, and he couldn't refuse. "I like the idea of working at a small place, and I love teaming up with Wendy. She is high energy and awesome to work with; she makes working fun." Kind has been busy right out of the gate, working on a campaign for Bermuda Tourism and a range of projects for Comedy Central. www.postmagazine.com Post • November 2013 5
