This year's theme is "The University of AfricanCentered Psychology: Merging Domestic and Global Perspectives." With more than 1,400 members, the association's mission is to promote and advance the profession of African Psychology, affect social change and develop programs whereby psychologists of African descent can assist in solving problems of Black communities and other ethnic groups. Previous conventions have been held in Los Angeles, CA (2012), Crystal City, D.C. Metropolitan area (2011) and Chicago, IL (2010). Miami, Florida will be the destination for the 17th Annual International African American Hotel Ownership Multicultural Tourism Summit & Trade Show hosted by The National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators and Developers. Attendees will stay at the Miami Marriot Biscayne Bay Hotel in Miami, FL from July 24-27, 2013. This year's summit includes a distinguished panel of speakers including Norman K. Jenkins, president of Capstone Development. In addition, a series of workshops, seminars and tours from top industry professionals will be offered to provide an in-depth analysis on hotel ownership as well as strategies on developing and maintaining vendor relationships. The National Association of Black Journalists will host their 38th Annual Convention and Career Fair at the Gaylord Palms Resort and The Convention Center in Kissimmee, FL from July 31–August 4, 2013. This year's theme is "People, Purpose, Passion: The Power of NABJ." The association reports that thousands of journalists, media executives, public relations professionals, and students are expected to attend. The convention will host a myriad of activities including professional development sessions, multimedia boot camps, learning labs and workshops to name a few. In addition, there will be a career fair and expo with the opportunity for attendees to meet with hiring representatives from a variety of organizations. The Black German Heritage and Research Association will host their 3rd Annual International Convention at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts from August 8-11, 2013. This year's convention will address "Black Germans in Diaspora." The keynote speaker will be Dr. Maureen Maisha Eggers, professor of Childhood and Diversity Studies at the University of Magdeburg. Special presentations will be given by guest artists Sharon Dodua Otoo and Sandrine Micossé-Aikins, editors of "The Little Book of Big Visions: How to Be an Artist and Revolutionize the World."
