MOTIONPICTUREC O S T U M E R S .O R G 47 Stitch Costume works exclusively for industry clients. Opening their doors to the public was not a viable option at the start. Han says they gave it a try, but found that they could not, nor did they want to, compete with the tailors at the local cleaners. Aside from their Instagram account, Stitch Costume has not invested in any advertising. They have been very fortunate to have work travel to them by word of mouth. Our Flag Means Death gave them the jump-start they needed in the beginning. Han says this was a very meaningful project for them in that regard. It gave them the confidence they needed to believe they could thrive in the industry. And indeed they did. Our Flag Means Death led to Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Palm Royale, All's Fair, Monster, and Joker: Folie à Deux to name a few. Aer the strikes and with the slowdown our industry is experiencing, theme parks have become the bread and buer at Stitch Costume, much like at some of the other independent custom workrooms. It is very encouraging that these theme parks have been hiring union shops to do nonunion work; recognizing the workmanship and innovation of a more experienced staff. Stitch Costume has been working primarily for Disneyland Anaheim, with the occasional project for the park in Orlando, Florida. The majority of the work with Disney has been for their shows both new and existing. Han explains that they do a lot of repairs and remakes on some of the existing shows; costumes taking a beating in the day-to-day wear and tear of a theme park. She points out that the work is definitely different from television and movies, but it is still working with costumes. "We're here achieving things together and being proud of our work." That is what they do best at Stitch Costume. Stitch Costume is an IATSE union workroom.
