12 • LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2025 In mid-February, SLM Masanori Aikawa/LMGI and his partners at the production service company Tokyo Rock Studio (TRS) participated in the 2025 European Film Market (EFM). Held in conjunction with the famed Berlinale Film Festival, the EFM serves as a platform for industry buyers, sales agents, producers and distributors to connect, forge deals and explore new projects. Says Aikawa, "This was our second time participating in EFM with a TRS booth at the Marriott Hotel. We were able to exchange and share information about locations, grants and filming opportunities in Japan with overseas filmmakers, film commissions and production companies. "I was also able to see films at the festival every day, which was wonderful! I attended a Japan Night reception, hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Germany to promote Japanese films and present Japan as a filming location to an international network of filmmakers. There I had the pleasure of meeting fellow LMGI member Alexander Georges who was attending the EFM from California. "My partners and I had a great time at EFM. I want to continue connecting with filmmakers from other countries, gathering information and enjoying all the new experiences this industry has to offer. I believe this is also in line with the spirit of the LMGI!"
