Tom: "The good news is that I don't officially start for six weeks. But I don't think we can wait. How are we going to get through all this material." Haley: "Audiobooks. We can listen at accelerated speeds when we're tired of reading. " We created our two-person book club: Analyzing The Foundation. Haley and I established regular discussion sessions that became the cornerstone of the design approach. These conversations weren't casual reading groups but structured analytical sessions where we built four key pillars. This would be a solid foundational structure that we could apply to any of our planets in our Dune universe of which there are ten thousand. Fortunately, we would be concentrating our efforts on six key planets. We mapped historical events creating chronological timelines highlighting pivotal moments in the universe's history. Next, diagramming the political structures would show the hierarchy and relationships between houses, schools and governmental bodies. These worlds were burgeoning with beefing clans whose lines weren't always cleanly separated, so we constructed genealogical trees that visualized family connections across generations, considering how bloodlines and heritage would manifest. The Herberts almost always gave a detail of their planetary typology: creating detailed profiles documenting each of the planet's conditions, indigenous materials, architectural traditions and cultural adaptations. This would also include the number of moons, suns and the color of light they would cast down to the flora and fauna. Haley and I got deep into the groove of the books, reading when we needed the quiet and cranking the audiobooks to 2.6x speed on the way to set while finishing my current show.
