6 • THE ARTISAN SUMMER 2025 CALENDAR OF EVENTS GUILD NEWS June 8 Board of Trustees Meeting 10:00 AM June 11 Executive Board Meeting 7:30 PM June 19 Juneteenth All dates are subject to change Historical Artifacts About 14 years ago, a private Facebook group called "MakeupMedia Archives," was created to share news, techniques, and more importantly, our collective history. e group attracted professional make-up and hair artists from around the world as members. Flash-forward: Local 706 President Julie Socash contacted me to discuss how we could uncover and preserve historical artifacts hiding in our union hall. ere were years of accumulated boxes, files, photos, and ephemera to go through. Numerous items had no provenance, so detective work and research was needed. e walls of the union hall were heavily peppered with old posters, Xeroxed images and faded photos, many with no description or context. It became clear that this was going to become something akin to an archeological dig. e house rule going in was: Don't throw anything away. e objective of this "Heritage Project" was to identify, organize, and preserve significant Local 706 assets. A physical and digital archive of images was created. Original photos and documents are being protected and preserved. Research library materials will be reorganized for future use. e walls have been cleared to make way for a collection of new displays. Even though the Local 706 union hall is technically a place of business, I wanted to curate the space like an art gallery. With the union's new archive being somewhat limited, photo restoration and prints are being provided by MakeupMedia's extensive archive. e new galleries will now showcase the history and creativity of our members. Each display will be accompanied by its own information placard. As this project is completed, the idea is to offer an open house event to members, presenting a "walking tour" of these galleries to enjoy. Special thanks to Julie and Business Rep Cheryl Eckert for their continued faith, trust, and good humor throughout the digging. My hope is to offer inspiration to present and future members, during a moment in history when it might be hard to find. As artists, innovators, and leaders in beauty and design, it's not just our job—it's our passion—to push boundaries, refine our skills, and share our knowledge. In an ever-evolving industry, staying ahead means staying educated. And when it comes to color, Schwarzkopf doesn't just deliver—Schwarzkopf inspires. Schwarzkopf recently hosted an unforgettable color-education event at Henkel North America Education in Culver City for 30 members that brought together hair stylists, educators, and creatives for a day filled with inspiration, innovation, and hands-on experience. Ian Mayer-Marszalek led the color introduction, alongside Amber Hug. After a delicious lunch and some lively networking, we dove into the heart of color mastery with the full Schwarzkopf color lineup and product knowledge with the entire team, including Shelby Allen, Christopher Nieves and Kelly Nunes. And the turnout? Absolutely amazing. From theory to technique, every detail was covered. We decoded Schwarzkopf's intuitive color-numbering system, making it easier than ever to navigate the wide array of product lines. Once you understand the system, the possibilities are endless—and so easy to execute with precision and confidence. A DEEP DIVE INTO COLOR LINES Color ID (Semi-Permanent) This innovative bonding color mask is perfect for actors, wigs, and extensions when you need a little pop between major color sessions. Custom mixable, it lasts 10–15 washes and delivers stunning results without compromise. It can be applied via bottle or bowl, depending on your desired outcome and processing solution. Perfect for root blends or subtle glossing, it leaves a soft, reflective finish that reads beautifully under lights.
