www.postmagazine.com 2 POST MAR/APR 2025 EDITOR'S NOTE he lead up to the release of Disney's Snow White was pretty uneventful, right? All kid- ding aside, Post has always chosen to focus on the artistry and technology that goes into making films (and television shows, and music videos, and commercials) rather than the hype, politics or box office statistics they might be linked to. That said, our "Cover Story" offers first-hand insight into the live-action adaptation of the 1937 animated feature. Post contributor Iain Blair caught up with editor-turned-director Marc Webb, who details his experience working on the film, and how his past credits, such as The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 influenced his approach to Snow White's visual effects, which includes photoreal versions of Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy. Post production primarily took place in London, and partly in Montreal. MPC (part of the now-closed Technicolor) and Framestore handled the majority of the film's visual effects. Beginning on page 10, Webb reflects on the experience and calls attention to the film's unique challenges. Moving on to our "Television" column on page 12, I had the chance to connect with Heather Jack, who directed four episodes of NBC's hysterical mockumentary series St. Denis Medical. The show has a now-familiar format (think The Office), and offers lots of laughs as its en- semble cast (Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Josh Lawson) take on the roles of various hospital workers trying to get through the day at their underfunded Portland, OR, medical facility. Jack, who's also directed episodes of NBC's Superstore and American Auto, shares insight into the show's prep, production and post workflow, which includes many of her past collaborators. St. Denis Medical spans eighteen 22-minute episodes and has already been renewed for a second season. My colleague Kendra Ruczak has a feature contribution that looks at the return of Japanese superhero Ultraman. The project spun out of writer/director Shannon Tindle's own interests more than 20 years ago, and was ultimately realized in the new animated feature Ultraman: Rising from Tsuburaya Productions and Netflix. Kendra caught up with Tindle and ILM visual effects supervisor Hayden Jones, who previously collaborated on the miniseries Lost Ollie in 2022. Both provide an inside look at the process of bringing Ultraman: Rising to life, including animation tests and how they carefully replicated Tokyo for the feature. You can read all about it, beginning on page 24. Also in this issue, I had a chance to hear from many of the contributors whose work de- buted at this year's Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. Many of these lesser-known titles may go on to gain attention as the year progresses. In fact, Iain spoke with filmmaker Mark Anthony Green, whose Opus was recently released in theaters. You can visit our website for his interview with the director and more on Opus. And for our "Sundance" coverage, turn to page 18. Be sure to visit postmagazine.com for the latest news coming out of Las Vegas from the annual NAB Show, too. There's sure to be lots of new technology designed to enhance post workflows.
