For Your Consideration For Your Consideration Head of Workroom Now Acknowledged by Television Academy N E W S By Erin Wenrick Local 705, and current President of the Costume Designers Guild, IATSE Local 892, and advised Patterson on how to proceed. Later, then Costume Designer and Supervisor Grainne O'Sullivan and Costume Supervisor Donna Casey Aira took up the mantle to get Head of Workroom as an eligible title. In 2023, Co-governors Luke Reichle and Laura Guzik did the presentation to get it on the ballot and were able to have it added. While the Emmys have long recognized the contributions of Costume Designers and Supervisors, the manufacturers who build the costumes have not been included in that celebration. By adding this title to the award, the Television Academy is honoring the work of our Custom Made members. The Head of Workroom is often a Manufacturing Foreperson, Pattern Maker/Fitter, or Supervising Tailor. Like a Costume Supervisor manages the overall Costume Department, these roles are responsible for managing the numerous Stitchers, Tailors, Dyers, Specialty Manufacturers, and other Custom Made Costumers who bring costumes to life from raw materials. All the nomination eligible titles are: Costume Designer (Stylist may be used in lieu of Costume Designer); Costume Supervisor (Costume Coordinator or Wardrobe Supervisor may be used in lieu of Costume Supervisor); Assistant Costume Designer (Co-costume Designer and/or Associate Costume Designer may be submitted in lieu of Assistant Costume Designer); and now, the Head of Workroom. There are two Governors for each of the 31 Peer Groups. The Costume Peer Group has a Costume Designer Governor and a Costume Supervisor Governor. Local 705 member Devon Patterson is the current Costume Peer Group Supervisor Governor for the Academy and tells us this change to include Head of Workroom took years of work to achieve. "A couple of Canadian designers had come to me a few years ago and asked why Head of Workroom doesn't get an award at the Emmys. I mentioned it to Terry Gordon." A Co-governor at the time, Gordon is a member of 6 SPRING 2025
