On Saturday, August 24, CAS members and guests gathered midafternoon at The Parlor in Vancouver for drinks, appetizers, and prizes! The chatty crowd enjoyed dissecting the current state of the industry and lamenting the latest equipment trends over finger food and pizzas. As the day moved to early evening, the event relocated to the Vancouver International Film Festival Centre where the lobby mingling led into the well- attended panel titled TALKING TRON! The lively panel, which included members of the sound team from both TRON: Legacy and the upcoming TRON: Ares, was moderated by Kyle Petty CAS, Chair IATSE Local 891 Sound Department, and CAS Events Committee member. Kyle talked with production sound mixer Michael McGee and boom operator Don Brown as they recalled tales of set triumphs and challenges from 2010. Joining them was TRON: Ares production sound mixer Mark Noda, who was able to bring a current slant to the TRON set. Attendees were then able to experience director Joseph Kosinski's TRON: Legacy in the city where it was shot and in the way it was intended—on the big screen!
