Representing the Motion Picture Sound Editors in this position is an honor, and I am excited about the organization's future. First and foremost, I would like to thank outgoing President Mark Lanza for his service to the MPSE and acknowledge the astounding job he did over the past four years. The world shifted under Mark's feet as soon as he took the helm in 2020, and he supremely navigated the waters of COVID-19. Board meetings were no longer in person, Sound Advice events were no longer in person, and the most significant change was that two years of the Golden Reel Awards were forced to be held re- motely! The logistics of these changes were staggering; under Mark's leadership, we sailed through the turbulent waters and came out the other side thriving. Mark will be the first to tell you that none of this could have been possible without the support and effort of our tremendous Board of Directors and our office manager extraordinaire, Tracie Costabile. We extend our sincerest thanks and gratitude to outgoing Board members David Bondelevitch and Harry Snodgrass. Your service to the organization has been invaluable. And a warm "Hello!" and welcome to incoming Board members Mark Camperell, Brian Armstrong, and Timothy Muirhead. I look forward to working on great things with you in the coming years. The Motion Picture Sound Editors organiza- tion is lucky to have you. The 71st Annual Golden Reel Awards are in the books, and it was another stunning awards show at the Ebell Theatre in Hollywood. What a pair of lifetime honorees—Michael Dinner (Filmmaker Award) and Dane A . Davis MPSE (Career Achievement Award)! What a privilege to be there on their special evening. Heartfelt congratulations to those who received a Golden Reel Award and all the incredible nominees. Your work continues to awe and inspire us all. Thank you to our show host, Patton Oswalt, and presenters Michael O'Neill, Adam Arkin, Peter Weller, and Jon Avnet with special congratulatory messages from Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins, and Lily Wachowski. A very special thank you to the awards committee and volunteers who made this incredible event possible: Miguel Araujo, Tracie Costabile, Steve Avila, Linda Rosner, Sequoia Productions, Mark Lanza, Chris Reeves, David Bondelevitch, Bill Dannevik, Amber Funk, Perry La Marca, and Eric Gillingham. I'd also like to extend a special thank you to our web designer and graphic artist, Amelia Montgomery. Lastly, we're looking forward to another incredible year of Sound Advice events and will kick it off in spectacular fashion. We'll be showing The Matrix on its 25th anniversary in Dolby Atmos at the Steven J. Ross Theater on the Warner Bros. lot, followed by a Q&A with Dane A. Davis himself ! The event is on April 6, so if you haven't signed up yet, do so ASAP! I look forward to a fantastic 2024 with the MPSE and hope to see you all soon. Enjoy this Spring 2024 edition of Wavelength! DAVID BARBER MPSE I PRESIDENT
