O R G S THE CURRENT Chairman of the MPSE Game Audio Committee, and a dedicated Board member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors, I take great joy in announcing the upcoming annual Game Audio Edition of Wavelength magazine. This issue is set to be a deep and broad exploration into the heart of game audio. It will feature a rich variety of content, from enlightening interviews to in-depth articles, each piece crafted to showcase the talents and craftsmanship of sound professionals in the gaming industry. MPSE, revered for its dedication to excellence in sound, has consistently served as a paragon of artistic recognition, honoring the extraordinary achievements in sound editing across a multitude of media. In embracing the continuously evolving landscape of sound, the MPSE's commitment to innovation is what propels this organization forward. In this spirit of deep commitment and great esteem for our craft, we are excited to dedicate the forthcoming annual edition of our publication to the complex and fascinating world of game audio. As we venture Wavelength Game Audio Annual Edition GA M E AU D I O A BY GARRETT MONTGOMERY MPSE M PS E CO N T R I B U TO R S Javier Quesada MPSE Film Sound as Rhetorical Device Javier Quesada was born on February 3, 1981, in Mexico City. In 2008, he graduated from SAE Barcelona where he studied the audio engineering program. In 2021, he finished his MA in Professional Practice (Film Sound Postproduction) in SAE London. In his career in post production, Javier has always searched for projects that present a challenge in their use of sound as a narrative tool. In 2019, he received the Golden Reel Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing for his work on Alfonso Cuaron's Roma. Miguel Araujo MPSE From Snow Forts to Hollywood Stages: The Life and Career of Mark Lanza MPSE Miguel Araujo is a South African-Portuguese supervising sound editor, ADR mixer, and re-recording mixer living in Vancouver, Canada. He is an active member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and serves as a director to the Board of both the Motion Picture Sound Editors and the Vancouver Post Alliance. Victoria Rose Sampson MPSE Sound Off OpEd: Where Are the Women Sound Editors? After a successful and award-winning 40+ year career as a supervising sound editor with over 200 feature film credits, Vickie Sampson uses her time for teaching, writing, directing, and playing with grandchildren and horses. She still edits sound for indie filmmakers and friends who need it. She has an Emmy, four Golden Reel Awards; has worked on Oscar-winning films for sound and is a member of AMPAS, MPSE, and Alliance of Women Directors. Vsampson@aol.com Garrett Montgomery MPSE Game Audio Garrett Montgomery is an accomplished post audio professional, with a specific focus on game dialogue recording and editorial. His extensive experience spans over 200 video games, which have been published by some of the industry's top players, including Microsoft, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, 2K Games, Riot, Capcom, Namco Bandai, Nintendo, Sony, Konami, Warner Bros., and others. Currently in his third term as a Board member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors, Garrett has received eight MPSE Golden Reel Award nominations. In 2017, he launched Pacific Coast Audio Post LLC, a specialized post-production studio offering an array of services, including game dialogue editorial, localization mastering, remote recording, analog synthesis, Eurorack modular, sound design, and mixing for both linear and interactive media.
