Film music has the advantage of occurring in sync with images, thus exponentiating its affective effect. If we played the scene in Baraka without Dead Can Dance's music, it just wouldn't be as emotionally powerful and specific. And listening to the track by itself doesn't trigger the same emotion. Again, we are faced with cinema's audio-visual specificity as the cause of its high rhetorical power. Logos through the sound effects track. Sound effects and Foley give scenes and films logical weight and credibility by creating context, and providing the fictional world presented on the screen with a sonic palpability and nuance that the camera alone cannot convey. If something sounds inaccurate within the diegesis, reason and logic tends to creep in, and that is when disbelief kicks in. As Buhler & Neumeyer accurately mention, "Establishment is now as likely to be handled aurally as visually. Rich ambient sound allows location to be effectively conveyed without visuals." (Buhler and Neumeyer, 2016). Toy Story 4 and the fairground Duke Caboom scene—a rhetorical analysis of the sound design. Doing sound design analysis as a sound designer is always an intricate task. We sometimes find amazing ideas that inspire us. And other times we inevitably have thoughts and ideas in the back of the mind on how we would have approached a film differently. Like Tom Holkenborg says in Score: A Film Music Documentary (2016), "When you read a book, and it says, 'There is this great forest,'" everybody pictures a forest. None of these forests will be the same. It's exactly the same with music. You can ask 15 other composers to read that same script, they will all have different musical ideas." Well, it is exactly the same with sound designers, cinematographers or any other artist for that matter. Each person will have a different approach and a different touch given the same material. On the other hand, it is positive to separate oneself from this inner resistance and personal creative approach and keep an open ear to try and understand why the film sounds the way it sounds. And why it was decided that the film should sound one way and not the other. Nothing is accidental, every frame and every sound has been premeditated. And every creative decision has a purpose. However, only the people who actually worked on the film know why they made the decisions they made and what the director was asking them to do. Apart from differences of style, every film, as we know, has a different origin, budget, timeline, workflow, talent involved, and goals. Toy Story 4 won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film in 2020. It is my impression when experiencing Frame from Toy Story 4 (2019).
