This is also our international edition with articles from around the globe. Let's get to the biggest news first. Due to the industry strikes, the MPSE has waived ALL member dues for the year! If you are reading this and are not a member, now is obviously the time to join. I would like to thank our entire Board of Directors that voted UNANIMOUSLY to waive the dues so that our members did not have to choose between MPSE and other financial obligations during this difficult time. We are glad the strike is over and looking to get back in the studio. Our annual picnic was October 7. It was attended by 275 members, friends, and family! It was really a spectacular day in the park and the food was great. The best part was seeing the look on the children's faces as they had a great time playing on the rides and getting their faces painted. Having Mom and Dad sitting in the shade with a beer was nice to see as well. We even had several members who were daring enough to ride the mechanical bull or brave the 200-foot alpine slide. Submissions are open for the 71st Golden Reel Awards. Please get them in soon. We just completed our elections here at the MPSE. Congratulations to our newest officers and Board of Directors members! The new President will be David Barber, the new Secretary is Miguel Araujo ( he was interim secretary). Returning Directors: Eric Marks, Stuart Morton, Baylon Fonseca, Christina Horgan, Korey Pereira, Kevin Howard, and Mark Lanza. New Directors: Timothy Muirhead and Brian Armstrong. All positions will be effective at our next awards ceremony on March 3, 2024. Welcome aboard. If you ran and didn't get elected, or you were thinking of running but didn't, there is always next year AND there are always opportunities to help the Board or get onto a judging panel. Volunteering is a great way to get a glimpse of what it is like to be on the Board of Directors, we love new people and ideas. Our "Sound Advice" events are in full swing, with a lot of them being in-person again. We have our "members only" YouTube channel online and you can stream missed ones there. Check your emails or mpse.org for upcoming events. Sounding Board v3.0, our annual joint-event with CAS, was a spectacular success. We sold out in only three days! It was a fun and informative day and included an amazing lunch and time to catch up with our colleagues. Thank you, Timothy Muirhead, for the amazing job you did moderating the event. Please enjoy this issue of Wavelength! Sincerely, MARK LANZA MPSE I PRESIDENT Sound Designer and Supervisor Sony Pictures Studios
