M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 23 Eric Marks MPSE: So this clip starts in a gameplay sequence. You were one of the two sound designers on Gears of War. Were you cutting sounds for the gameplay, as well as for the cinematics? Jamey Scott MPSE, Sound Designer: Yeah, if I recall correctly on this, Mike Larson, an audio director at Epic Games, didn't do a lot of the actual sound creation for this game. I did probably 90 percent of it. So all the weapons, all the creatures, everything—I was the guy that made those sounds at the time. It wasn't clear as to if I was going to continue to do the cinematics or not, but they gave me a test. It was a cinematic where you encounter the berserker in the hallway. And I was like, "Okay, cool." I submitted my thing and they were like, "Dude, you got the gig." Jerry O'Flaherty, an art director at Epic Games, was creating the visuals for all the cinematics and I really admired him a lot. So it was really fun to get to work with him for the first time.
