are changing fast, especially in television. Our partnership is built on a constant exchange of ideas, and the sets we create only benefit from the perspectives of two unique, creative individuals who share a common interest and aesthetic. Season Four Highlights Designing all four seasons of A Black Lady Sketch Show has been a remarkable and special experience. But we approach A Black Lady Sketch Show not just as its designers, but as allies and fans. We make a very purposeful effort to celebrate Black women in every way we can. This includes our set decoration team, led by Lizzie Boyle, forming relationships with Black female visual artists across several seasons to source art for our sets; our propmaster, Todd Daniels, seeking out and showcasing Black-owned brands when his team selects props; and making sure that details, from classroom posters of historical figures to vendor choices to Easter eggs, reflect and support the excellence of Black women across all fields of accomplishment. Season four sketches like "Mind Ya Bidness," "Front Desk Mess" and "Hotel It Like It Is" serve as showcases for small brands and visual artists whose work we wanted to celebrate and elevate. So much of ABLSS is shot on location, but we get one or two sketches in each season where we get to build from the ground up. The design for the sketch "Girls Trippin'" was inspired by airline safety videos shot on a black box sound stage. There's a genre of those that are all about eye-catching choreography set to music, with moving set pieces. It's really inventive stuff. We combined that with a nod to the surreal and hyperreal visual style of '90s R&B videos. Originally, we intended to shoot in an airplane set, but it was busy in LA and none of those standing sets were available to book. We then scouted an actual airplane cabin, but it felt too confined. We pivoted and decided that an abstract, built set would push the sketch into exciting new territory. Bridget (director) and Kevin (DP) wanted to shoot things in a very fluid style, and we knew the way the cast would be moving through the space was going to be dynamic. We designed a central set piece reminiscent of an airplane cabin with a middle section that could split apart, in addition to moveable pieces like cockpit doors, a freestanding bathroom stall and adjustable window shades backed by an LED screen so we could change the view out the windows in an instant. We incorporated the pink color palette that is iconically associated with all seasons of ABLSS. The amazing construction team at Standard Scenery built and installed all the set pieces, including a series of lightbox wayfinding signs that build up visual RAISED STRIPE DETAIL PAINT BM 2084-40 PAINT BM 2084-60 WINDOW SHADES: TO BE FUNCTIONAL PAINTED MDF OK TO ADJUST IN BETWEEN SHOTS PAINT BM 2084-50 WINDOW CASINGS 4" WIDE PAINT BM 2084-40 PAINT BM 2084-60 PAINT BM 2084-60 PAINT BM 2084-60 PAINT BM 2084-60 9' 2' 7' 1' 1' R4" R2'-6" 5'-5" 69° 3'-2 1/2" 3'-2 1/2" 107° R1'-6" R2'-6" R2'-6" R1'-6" R2'-6" R2'-6" 16' 107° 32' 2'-4 1/2" 12' 8' 12' 3'-2 1/2" 2'-4 1/2" 2'-4" 22'-10 3/4" 2'-4" LED LIGHT STRIPS C COCKPIT DOOR FLAT 1 AIRPLANE WINDOWS 3'-1" 3'-1" 3'-6" 1'-10" 1'-4" 6'-8" 1'-2" 1'-10" 2'-6" R8" PAINT BM 2084-50 EGGSHELL PAINT BM 2084-50 EGGSHELL 3" 3" 5" 32' 12' 8' 12' WILD TO CAMERA WINDOW SCREENS TO BE ADJUSTABLE 11" 9' 1'-9" 1'-2" 1'-2" 1'-9" 2'-11" 3'-2" 2'-11" 2'-4" 1'-2" 5' 1'-2" 2'-4" 2'-4" 1'-2" 5' 1'-2" 2'-4" R2'-6" 3' 7'-6" 9' 9" 3'-6" 1'-10" DECORATIVE PAINTED LINE 2" THICK BM 2084-40 WINDOW SHADES: TO BE FUNCTIONAL PAINTED MDF OK TO ADJUST IN BETWEEN SHOTS PAINT BM 2084-50 WINDOW CASINGS 4" WIDE PAINT BM 2084-40 LED LIGHTING STRIPS R8" 2'-2" 3'-5 1/2" R3'-10 1/2" 3'-5 1/2" R3'-10 1/2" R2'-6" OUTLINE OF OPENING FOR WALL A SINGLE WALL FLAT THAT WILDS OUT PAINT BM 2084-50 EGGSHELL PAINT BM 2084-50 EGGSHELL 3" 5" 3" 2 1 4 " 2' 3 4 " 2'-6" 1'-10" 4" 4" 3'-6" 1'-10" 2'-2" 7'-6" 5'-4' 1'-4" 1' 1'-4" 9' 11" STAND OFF FOR LED STRIPS WINDOW CASING 3 4 " MDF CNC ADJUSTABLE WINDOW SCREENS WINDOW SIL STAND OFF FOR LED STRIPS COCKPIT DOORS AIRPLANE WALL FLAT PRODUCTION DES: MICHELE YU SET DECORATOR: LIZZIE BOYLE PRODUCTION DESIGNER: CINDY CHAO PRELIMINARY 11/8/2022 6:53:22 PM DRAWING: SET: LOCATION: EPISODE: DATE: SHEET #: VERSION: SCALE: DRAWN BY: INT AIRPLANE WALL DETAILS INT.
