It was decided that we would build the buildings which were steel-framed from the stage floor and once each block was finished, painted and aged, the platform was then built out of timber and soundproofed from below to stop hollow and echo sounds around each block. Creating the change in levels we wanted and enough height for the sea. Paris Paris was an exterior square built on a stage at Origo Studios, where most of the film was shot. This is where Bella starts to question some of the things she has picked up along the way. She becomes practical and has more agency in her own choices. The brothels' obviously phallic windows and huge nude façade go unnoticed and are unremarkable to Bella's eyes, the obvious is not obvious to her. For each of the cities, we wanted to have a different atmospheric event happening which related to Bella's development and state of mind. Paris is where she learns some hard truths about the world. Its frozen but none the less beautiful, the bare trees are blood red and look like these giant blood vessels bending in the snow. Zsófi Kóthay, the lead Art Director, and her team crafted some of our favorite surreal details, like the concrete curtains on the theater, the light up floor in the brothel foyer and the fake fur-lined walls in Bella's brothel bedroom.
