34 • LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2023 Glass Onion Tár John Wick: Chapter 4 OUTSTANDING LOCATIONS IN A CONTEMPORARY FEATURE FILM GLASS ONION Netflix Five longtime friends become wrapped up in a murder mystery on the Greek island home of a billionaire, as the film's fabulous location, sprawling luxury estate Villa 20 in Porto Deli, traps the action in an idyllic bubble of privilege and beauty. Secondary locations were challenged to match the villa's opulence and exoticism: Beach scenes were filmed on Korakia Beach in the Kranidi area, while the restaurant and main square of the century-old Poseidonion Grand Hotel on Spetses Harbour are also featured. JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 Lionsgate Transglobal location work lends international cachet to the latest chapter of the spy franchise as John Wick seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld. The bloody action story's high stakes play out in lavish spaces like the Opera Garnier, the Red Rooms of the Louvre, the grand stables at the Palace of Versailles, the Arc de Triomphe, the Jardin du Luxembourg and the breathtaking Sacré- Coeur Basilica in Montmartre. Other notable stops on Wick's cross-planet adventure are Wadi Rum in Jordan, the Sacred Heart Church and Kraftwerk in Berlin, the National Art Center in Tokyo, the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and the Four Freedoms State Park in New York. TÁR Focus/Universal Pictures World famous composer-conductor Lydia Tár is at the top of her game when sexual abuse allegations come to light and threaten her carefully curated life. The city of Berlin takes center stage as the psychological drama unfolds against its minimalist structure and clean lines. Central to the story is a refurbished 1960's concert hall in Dresden that served as Tár's mid- century rehearsal space, its wood paneling and warm lighting echoing her sleek office and her childhood home. The contrast between Lydia's modest former studio and her chilly, brutalist Berlin apartment frames the identity conflict that sets up her eventual fall from grace.
