32 • LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2023 A Spy Among Friends Queen Charlotte Daisy Jones & the Six OUTSTANDING LOCATIONS IN A TV SERIAL PROGRAM, ANTHOLOGY OR LIMITED SERIES A SPY AMONG FRIENDS Amazon Prime Video In this espionage thriller, a British intelligence officer learns that his closest friend of 30 years is a double agent working for the KGB. Not only did locations have to recreate 1930s, '40s and '60s London, but provide an environment where the camera had room to always "watch" the action from afar, creating a feeling of always being under surveillance. London supplied many of the period government buildings drawn from its inventory, while Romania played for Beirut, Istanbul, Moscow, Vienna and Berlin. Deliberately sought claustrophobic interiors heightened the intensity of emotion and feelings of betrayal in a story based on a real spy scandal. DAISY JONES & THE SIX Amazon Prime Video This fly-on-the-wall ride back to the '70s follows a rock band from its rise in the LA music scene to its crash and burn at the height of success. Locations were found all over LA County, in New Orleans and Greece to portray all the stops on a cross-country tour and bring context to the dynamics of the band. The Sunset Strip plays itself, as did many of its iconic clubs. Apartments in Hollywood stand in for the Chateau Marmont's poolside bungalows. Legendary recording studios, rustic houses evoke the Laurel Canyon vibe, and a detour to Hydra help recreate the era and the band's heady, drug-fueled, love-triangled journey. Over six concerts were staged with live music at iconic venues, in the California desert and at stadiums in Louisiana. Long live rock 'n' roll! QUEEN CHARLOTTE Netflix This captivating historical prequel to Bridgerton tells the journey of young Queen Charlotte as she ascends to prominence and power in the late 18th century as the wife of King George. Exquisite English castles, estates, gardens and countryside that surround London are served up with sumptuous and delicious splendor. The story delves into the complexities of the marriage, as well as the stark differences between the grandness of the royal abode and the humbler beginnings of the new Queen at Dorney Court. Blenheim Palace, depicting the might of the monarchy, is very much the jewel in the crown!
