particular people or productions that have inspired you to
take this current career path?
DZH: Until now, this field has been a real roller coaster. From
the 12-plus-hour days, to all the traveling, it's hard to stop and
think why you are doing all of this. Then I'm reminded this is
my passion, and I'm doing what I love.
I still have those moments every day the phone rings with a job
offer. Working on Yellowstone was the production that cemented
me on this "career path." It has been an all-encompassing effort
and I've realized it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. There
are several people who have inspired me along the way. Some
of the Austin greats like directors Richard Linklater, Robert
Rodriguez and Terrence Malick.
Additional inspiration came from all the Austin location
managers: Mark Jarrett, Joey Hudgins, James Crowley, Jon
Patterson, Paul Knaus/LMGI, Dustin Daniels, Ken Lewin/LMGI.
Recent stand-outs as who supported me are Charles Skinner/
LMGI and Ryan Smith/LMGI. There are so many others—
amazing producers and many of the cast and crew you meet
on projects.
PM: So what's next? Is there anything you are aspiring to
do in locations?
DZH: I'm always inspired to find a new places to film. Something
unique. Something representing the story's true nature and
gives the story a sense of place and setting. I love thinking
about locations as inanimate character to the story. I would like
to keep doing that in places I've never been—internationally
or here at home. Also, I want to start producing projects I find
interesting and intriguing.
PM: What have you found to be the most enjoyable part of
your job?
