8 • LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2023 IN THE NEWS LMGI Rocks FOCUS 2022 in London LMGI President John Rakich and LMGI administrator Erika Howard once again hosted the Guild's location booth at the FOCUS event last December. Held in London's spacious glass-arched hall of the historic Business Design Center, this convention is the meeting place for the international production community. "It was great to see so many of our business partners again," says Rakich, "and the old and new film commissioners who also came by. Not to mention all the LMGI members who spent time at the booth— including Mick Ratman, Christian McWilliams, Leann Emmert, Ken Matsuoka, Anna Coats, Klaus Darrelmann and Tom Howard to name a few." The LMGI was well represented on several panels. Harriet Lawrence ran a "Location Case Study" panel featuring her work on The Essex Serpent titled "Mud, Sweat and Tide," and Leann Emmert participated on a panel on "Location Scouting." "It was 'standing room only' for the panels, with folks standing in the hall. It highlights how much people want to hear what our members have to say!" shares Rakich. "This was the most incredible work trip I have ever been on!" exclaims Howard. "I also noticed what a difference a year makes! Last year, coming out of the pandemic, no one was sure when things would get back to normal. But this year, wow, there was a palpable sigh of relief. Many of our business partners and film commissions now have budgets and are reaching out for ways to support the LMGI." Concludes Rakich, "I want to give thanks to our partners at The Location Guide for putting on such a stellar event and for allowing us to come and be a part of reconnecting with all our members, friends and business associates from the other side of the pond. We're looking forward to doing it all again this December!" "It was so inspiring to be among people who wanted to connect with us because they understand how important location pros are in the decision-making process when it comes to choosing filming locations. After the panels, everyone would crowd into our booth to meet our members!" –Erika Howard, LMGI administrative manager
