ASSOCIATION GOVERNANCE SPRING 2023 | ADVOCATE 13 ESP At-Large Director Lloyd Cook III Having been educated in Arizona's public schools I have always been extremely appreciative of all the Educators that have invested their time in helping me grow as a person. I'm proud to be able to run for the position of ESP At-Large Director to give back. Joining the Navy and traveling the world taught me the value of being a part of something bigger than myself. I also learned that not everyone is able to advocate for themselves and why Unions are so important. I'm running for this position to be the advocate and voice for so many of my colleagues around the state that are oen overlooked. Collaborating with Directors from around the state will help me learn of the challenges and work towards solutions. I know Education Support Professionals have different needs based on their career family, so I want to li their stories and voices to work towards solutions that create the working conditions and rESPect they deserve. As a Union we have a lot of difficult work to do for our students, colleagues and communities and we need to depend on each other to advance this work at all levels. Getting to know what the smallest local needs up to the largest is important in building the capacity we need to make changes to the systems that have been created to stifle growth and change. I appreciate you voting for me, Lloyd Cook for ESP At-Large Director so we can advance this Union together. My name is Anastasia Jimenez, coming to you from Phoenix Union High School District in Phoenix, Arizona. For the past 6 years, I've been honored to serve my local, community, state, and nation through a variety of ESP- focused engagements. ese include bringing national PD opportunities to ESP locals, curating ESP-made and ESP-focused training and conferences, leading ESP-centered discussions, and more. As I transition from being an early career ESP educator to a mid-career level ESP, I'm constantly listening, learning, fine-tuning my skills, and continuing my leadership development and practices, so that I can help cultivate quality, meaning, and drive within our ESPs and their respected professions nationwide. I've held different roles within the ESP career families, which include clerical services, paraeducators, and health and student services. During my time, I've realized that ESP voices, although not always welcome, are always needed. From state or national conferences and workshops to policy changes, language writing, advocacy, and negotiations; there is always an opportunity for our ESP voices to be engaged, uplied, and heard. rough transparency, intentional collaboration, inclusion, and courage, I believe our ESPs across the state, no matter which of the 9 career families they represent, can have a voice and the power to be rESPected! With your vote of support, we can continue building up our professions, raising up our colleagues, and creating an equitable future for our students and the communities we serve together! ank you for your time and consideration.
