AVA T A R : T H E WAY O F WA T E R | P E R S P E C T I V E 4 1 The successful divide-and-conquer approach from Avatar would be echoed, but with a key difference. Dylan would concentrate on the "organic" side of the sequel's design—the planet and its flora, fauna and Na'vi people—while Ben would focus on the "hard surface" human world of tech, vehicles and architecture. But in a novel strategy, the sequel's Art Department would bring together all artists and designers in one space, sometimes working on contrasting subject matter but always collaborating as a unified team to solve one big design puzzle. While we each had our own area of specialization, we worked together constantly to ensure that the visual harmonies and dissonances between our worlds would intermesh successfully onscreen. A.
