Steven was scheduled to walk through the three finished sets of the Fabelmans' homes on the same day. But before this, he wanted his three sisters to see them. "I trust my family," he told us. "This is all about getting this movie made and made in the right way." Overall, The Fabelmans was approached as a road trip adventure with a three-act structure layered with emotional subtext. The family's move from snowy, stormy New Jersey into the hot, dramatic deserts of Arizona and finally to the golden lands of California represents a journey toward an uncertain "promised land," as well as a classic American narrative about going west to find new fortune and freedom.
