Nothing was said about the director being none other than Danny Boyle! Oddly enough, she did have some rock-climbing experience, but probably not the kind the producer had in mind! In 2000, she fell into a deep ravine while skiing and awoke all alone in the snow on a steep rocky slope. She suffered a fractured shoulder and skull and lost her glasses. She was only sixty miles from LA, but it would be three days before she saw another human being following her rescue. ABC TV sent Jaie Avila up to the hospital to interview her, and his account of her survival story was their lead on the six o'clock news of January 29. Later that year, she hired a mountaineer to help her find the place where she fell and retrace her route out of the mountains in order to dispel some mysteries about the accident. The area where she fell could only be reached with rock-climbing gear, which led to her crash course in climbing techniques. D. 127 HOURS, AARON AND THE GIRLS ENTER THE SLOT CANYON.
