snow globe for a happy memory of every person on the planet. Art Department coordinator Olivia Meredith had a hand in detailing the dozen or so snow globes that would grace the shelves. All too often, we design and build glorious sets only to have the "strike zone" (the area about three to six up from the ground) make their way in the edit. But director and showrunner Jason Winer frequently framed his shots with those intricate details in mind. "How fast can that corbel with the elf ears come off the wall?" Jason once asked me. "I want to use it as a foreground piece." I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the show to see how the sets were able to act as characters, drawing the viewer into a story that was at once very familiar and brand new. As the holidays are about the gathering of family to celebrate life and all that comes with it, I was reminded of that during this show. I "made my bones" doing movies with Zak and Mel. We were so incredibly lucky to have a family of propmakers, plasterers, sculptors and scenics who brought their talents together to make this project happen. Even after a straight 28- day stint making sure the stages were ready for shooting crew, everyone seemed to have the spirit of Christmas within them instead of any bah humbugs. Some shows do not have that happy working vibe. But I like to think the spirit of Saint Nick was imbued into every arch, scallop, every roll of wallpaper. And I hope the show is one that families everywhere can share, as my film family did.
