His father was an artist who worked in advertising and animation for Disney and other studios, and his mother was a school psychologist for LAUSD. The family returned to Los Angeles when Luis was a teenager and he attended Van Nuys High School, UCLA and SCI-ARC, where he got a degree in architecture. After working several years in architecture offices, a friend lined up an interview with the Art Director of Stargate, which led to a 30-year career in set design. Luis feels fortunate to have worked with many talented designers and on several ADG Award- nominated films (Oblivion, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Dunkirk, War of the Planet of the Apes, Tenet, Birds of Prey), as well as Academy Award- nominated Dreamgirls and Academy Award winner Memoirs of a Geisha. He lives in Pasadena with his wife Ivonne (a retired LAUSD teacher) and has a daughter, Ana, who lives in London with her husband Ryan. A. LUIS HOYOS. B. WAYNE TOWER FROM THE BATMAN. ELEVATION. C.
