ADG President Nelson Coates recalls his meeting Brenner as a new member of the AMPAS Foreign Language Committee: "Albert Brenner was one of the first people I met during that inaugural year on the committee, which required in-person viewing and voting at the Academy. Needless to say, as a newly minted Academy member, meeting a five-time Oscar nominee for such cultural touchstones as 2010, The Turning Point, Beaches, The Sunshine Boys and California Suite, was beyond intimidating. But Albert quickly put me at ease, and thus began a wonderful friendship and tradition sitting together and discussing film, life and art. Albert Brenner has remained a personal and professional hero, and in so many ways, a design legend…all-the-while a gracious and influential mentor and friend… Mr. Brenner will be sorely missed." A.
