Dear Members, First of all, congratulations to our new President Terry Gordon as well as the rest of our CDG board, officers, and delegates. It has been a pleasure collaborating, listening to their new ideas, and sharing their excitement for the future of our guild. Volunteerism is a necessity for a labor union, and these positions are a huge personal commitment in terms of time, energy, and passion that benefits the entire membership. We have recently made some tangible gains in our commercial contract. The list of benefits include • Over the next three years, costume designers will have a 33% raise yearly resulting in pay parity with production designers starting October 1, 2024. • ACDs were added to the agreement as an hourly employee at the 1st assistant rate. • Overtime tied to shoot days for wages only for on call positions. • Wage increases of 6%, 4%, 4% in each year of the agreement, compounded. • New holiday added: Juneteenth National Independence Day. • Creation of a DEI sub-committee. As part of this effort, I organized the "All In" IATSE Locals Mixer with a PAC fundraiser, which was a huge hit with all the Hollywood locals attending. Thank you to our members who participated. The PAC is our political voice in Washington. With so many political forces arrayed against organized labor, we need that representation now more than ever. Even if you were unable to attend the event, you can still donate to the PAC. I am passionate and protective of the CDG members. My first and foremost job is to assist and support you. Remember, we are here to help. Please reach out to us with your concerns and issues not just with conditions at your work, but finances, social support, and any health issues that may come up. Finally, report your work. All boats rise together. Let the CDG members rise as one. 10 THE COSTUME DESIGNER | WINTER 2023
