A Mayan Temple Under the Chatsworth Mall Most people don't know it…but there is definitely an 800-year-old Mayan Temple comfortably hidden deep beneath the Chatsworth Mall. Well, at least now people know it. As the comedic action plays out between Bud and Seth, the third act is built on the fact that Bud simply killed the wrong vampire. When Audrey's mama bear won't let Bud off the hook, she decides to go after his family and bring them to her underground lair, where she plans to turn his daughter and drink his ex- wife…what fun! This ominous and unexpected environment is meant to transport the story into the old world of Audrey's vampire nest. A place where ritual ceremonies are performed, and a vampire sub-culture can thrive. A place where the Mayan gods Kukulcan, Itzamna and Buluc Chabtan are worshipped and watched over by the almighty Hunab Ku, the heart of the universe and the source of energy connecting all living beings. JJ let me run and really have some fun developing this environment. I designed my early concept in SketchUp, and I worked with Set Designer Anshuman Prasad to create and refine the many connected sets that would ultimately lead to Audrey's chamber. Digging deep into the many facets of Mayan history, I quickly learned that an underground Mayan Temple was something that did not exist in history, which opened the door even wider for invention. Sticking with the framework and guiding principles of Mayan Temple design, I set the stage for a long, linear temple set on the precipice of a vast cavern anchored with the face of Hunab Ku. From there, Wendy Stokes began developing the intricate and ornate hieroglyphs that would adorn the various wall surfaces. I then worked with Illustrator Marek Okon to develop several fully rendered views employing his artistry in the technical use of Blender. Once A. MAYAN TEMPLE ENTRANCE. PRODUCTION STILL. B.
