AREA GUIDES A R K A N S A S THE NATURE STATE IS GREAT FOR MEETINGS TOO B Y R U F U S M C K I N N E Y Business travelers and leisure travel- ers alike can let loose in Arkansas with an abundance of attractions and activities all over the state. With so many picturesque backdrops of the beautiful outdoors it's no wonder why travelers want to hold their conferences, family reunions, wed- dings and other private gatherings here. Arkansas offers a variety of options for planners looking for the unique meeting destination. For instance, Pine Bluff, located along several historic trails, includes four approaches involved in the October 1863 Attack on Pine Bluff and the water route of the Trail of Tears. These passages, along with other histori- cally significant routes, are now part of the Arkansas Heritage Trails System. Nicknamed "The Bass Capital of the World," Pine Bluff plays host to 30-35 bass tournaments a year. In addition to historical attractions and points of interest, Arkansas also boasts an array of top-of-the line meeting and convention facilities sure to meet the needs of your organization. • • LITTLE ROCK • • At the center of the state, Little Rock is Arkansas's capital city. Fittingly, the state's diverse cultures converge at Little Rock, which is home to a thriving and downtown entertainment district, a wide array of restaurants, exciting nightlife, riverside parks and an abundance of golf courses. Little Rock hotels provide planners with a wide variety of spaces for their upcom- ing conventions, exhibits and shows. Popular choices are: the 94-room Capital Hotel (6,000 sq. ft. of meeting space); 244-room Delta Hotels by Marriott Little Rock West (7,200-sq. ft.); 288-room DoubleTree by Hilton (14,405 sq. ft.); 251- room Embassy Suites by Hilton Little Rock (23,688 sq. ft.); and the 480-room Marriott Little Rock (40,000 sq. ft.). From centuries of history chronicled in expert museums to dazzling galleries that will expand your horizons and spark your imagination, the list of sights to see in Little Rock is long. Little Rock is home to one of the nation's most significant his- torical landmarks: the Central High School National Historic Site, where a pivotal U.S. school desegregation case began. The Little Rock Nine Memorial, dedicated to the students involved in the case, is located on the grounds of the State Capitol. The city is also home to The Clinton Presidential Center and Park in the River Market District overlooking the Arkansas River. Exhibits feature a replica of President Clinton's Oval Office, the presidential limousine and a time-line with exhibits for each year of Clinton's presidency. ONE MEETING and you'll be Big on Little Rock. L i t t l e R o c k M e e t i n g s . c o m / m u lt i c u lt u ra l B M & T ••• November/December 2022 ••• www.blackmeetingsandtourism.com 43
