LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2022 • 19 THE FIRST LADY Spanning the years between 1890 and 2016, this docudrama imagines Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Michelle Obama as they struggle to keep their personal lives out of the public eye while championing their causes and supporting their husbands who occupy the Oval Office. Period residences across Georgia were used for the Roosevelts' Campobello compound in Nova Scotia, the Obamas' Chicago home and the Fords' Rancho Mirage House. A busy unit traveled the United States, filming exteriors of Palm Springs, Chicago's Loop and shoreline, the Roosevelts' Hyde Park estate and city home, and iconic buildings in Washington D.C.—the White House, National Mall, US Capitol and US Supreme Court—to place the Georgia locations in their proper historic settings and bring them to life. The Tourist The First Lady Under the Banner of Heaven THE TOURIST A car accident leaves a Northern Irishman in Australia with no memory of who he is, why he is there and who wants him dead. This psychological thriller unfolds against the vast yet beautiful expanse of the Australian Outback, an indifferent and uncaring environment that provides no help or protection. The locales track his frantic journey from arid barren land to modern hotels in his quest to jog his recall. Barreling across open roads and through the small dusty towns of Southern Australia, the bizarre unraveling of memory provides offbeat humor and touches of the surreal heightened by the dramatic landscape. UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN Based on the bestselling book by Jon Krakauer, this true crime drama recounts the gruesome murders of a young Mormon mother and her baby in their home near Salt Lake City, UT, in the 1980s. Set against the stark western slope of the American Rockies in Utah, the series carves itself out on location in the Canadian Rockies near Alberta, Canada. The cold steep rigid slopes in the background, the meticulously chosen period structures and quaint neighborhoods, the forested hideouts, all reinforce the veracity of the events which cut back-and-forth between the search for the killer and scenes from the founding of the Mormon faith 100 years before.
