REMOTE WORKFLOWS www.postmagazine.com 29 POST MAR/APR 2022 PARAMOUNT GLOBAL IMPLEMENTS AVID'S MANAGED-CLOUD SOLUTIONS Paramount Global (paramount.com), one of the world's largest providers and producers of media and entertainment content, has entered into an agreement that offers Avid's managed-cloud solutions for video content production to creative teams around the globe. The companies' new cloud subscription ser- vices agreement supports Paramount Tech's 'cloud fir t' mindset, transforming production operations with rapidly-scalable, centralized resources that relieve creative teams from the burden of infrastructure management. Avid's (avid.com) managed platform is delivered on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, supporting video editing tools, content management platforms and shared storage that are now available to teams consisting of hundreds of contributors, editors and producers around the world. "Avid's managed cloud gives us the agility, speed and capabilities to collaborate from anywhere by bringing together our end-user tools, pro- duction platforms and workfl w management into a scalable cloud sub- scription," explains Phil Wiser, executive vice president & CTO of Paramount Global. "We've become much nimbler and more efficient t meeting the elastic needs of the geographically-distributed teams delivering Paramount content." Paramount began its cloud journey with Avid by creating an open en- vironment to ensure collaboration between users of Avid and third-party editing tools, followed by the establishment of remote editing workfl ws for business continuity at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The com- panies' new agreement empowers Paramount production teams in Europe, Asia Pacific and the US o create TV shows and other content on the open Avid MediaCentral production platform, Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere video editing software, and Avid NEXIS media storage — all man- aged by Avid in the cloud. "While we began our cloud work with Paramount with a proof of concept, our expanding collaboration showed us the speed at which this industry is learning to apply the cloud toward dramatically enhancing the many ways production teams want to do their best work," notes Avid CEO and president, Jeff osica. "Avid is thrilled to bring the power of our cloud collaboration with Microsoft to help Paramount carry out their vision for content creation far beyond the limitations of on-premises operations into the cloud while driving adoption across the industry." MOLINARE SOLUTIONS ENABLE SECURE REMOTE WORKFLOWS London's Molinare (https://molinare.co.uk) has developed a number of in-house services designed to make remote work a secure and fl xible alternative, par- ticularly after the rise in hybrid work environments that have emerged due to COVID. MoliStream, MoliRemote, MoliSync and MoliVault were created by the studio's in-house team and have since been implemented on local, national and global productions. To support the streaming of media to remote locations, Molinare has devel- oped two solutions: MoliStream-Offline and Mol tream-HQ. Both products allow a source feed of video and audio from within Molinare's facilities to be securely viewed remotely on computers and mobile devices. One source feed can be viewed simultaneously by multiple remote devices. MoliStream-Offli is a cost effective solution designed for attaching to the output of an offli suite for remote viewing throughout the day. MoliStream-HQ is designed for attaching to online, grading or mixing theatres for review sessions. Molinare has developed several tools to support remote working. These are built on established industry technology and are now being provided under the product banner of MoliRemote. The tools allow a remote user to securely take control of equipment physically located inside Molinare's facilities from home or another remote location. The remote user can either use their own equipment or equipment provided to them. All media remains secure, within Molinare's facilities. On occasions where bandwidth restrictions may exist or where creatives want to use their own equipment, MoliRemote or MoliStream may not be suit- able. For these circumstances, Molinare has developed MoliSync, which allows a user to sync some or all of a project's media, located on one of Molinare's servers, to a remote location. The sync processes uses industry technology to maximize the use of available bandwidth and to encrypt the media traveling across the internet. The data can automatically trickle across poor bandwidth connections or travel at high speed over fib e broadband. It will stop automat- ically when on the move and then start back up again when connection to the internet can be re-established. Molinare has identified the need or clients to be able to store large amounts of media/data for extended periods of time without wanting to bear the cost of occupying high-speed disk. MoliVault was developed specifically or this purpose and uses intelligent tiered storage solutions to protect client's data, providing a cost-effective storage facility for clients while also freeing up expensive, high-speed spinning and solid-state disk space. All media remains stored within Molinare's facility and not in the cloud. Media can be brought back, either partially or in its entirety, at short notice. When no longer needed, the data can be deleted or delivered to clients on LTO tape.
