When we aspire, we direct our hopes and ambitions toward achieving a goal. Wyoming's Aspiring Educators are the future educators who are currently in college learning to be teachers, librarians, counselors, and other professionals tied to public education. They are completing observation hours, practicum hours, and student teaching programs. Most importantly they aspire to be educators–dedicating their professional careers to the learning, development, and support of students. WEA has a vision of supporting Aspiring Educators as they prepare for their chosen professions. Across Wyoming, what was formerly known as the Student WEA program, or "SWEA", is transforming into WEA Aspiring Ed. New chapters have been formed at the University of Wyoming in Laramie and at Northwest College in Powell. Plans a re also in place for a new chapter at Casper College. What are the activities of these chapters? They build a sense of community and belonging to Aspiring Educators, helping them to network and build relationships that will support their professional growth throughout their careers. They offer training and opportunities for professional learning and discussion. They are getting involved in the issues t hat matter most in our current times–school safety, student and educator wellness, equity, and respect. June 10-12, 2022, WEA will host an Aspiring Educators conference in Laramie. Aspiring Educators will participate in workshops for Early Career Educators, meet other Aspiring Educators from across the state, and participate in a local community service project. If you are an Aspiring Educator and have n't joined WEA yet, or if you know any Aspiring Educators in Wyoming who need to join WEA, signing up is easy at bit.ly/weaaspiringed and remember, any dues paid as an Aspiring Educator will be rebated in the first year of WEA Certified membership!
