said Executive Producer Kathy Connell. "It's truly the actors' party in the actors' house." Still, with the return of an in-person event comes the need to guarantee everyone's safety. As the COVID pandemic continues and on-set guidelines remain firmly in place in Hollywood, production continues to monitor the situation and take precautionary measures. This has not only meant working closely with COVID experts, but also limiting the number of guests and requiring those present to provide proof of full vaccination and negative test results in order to attend. But, above all else, the SAG Awards ultimately remains an event that serves to aid the performing community. This year's production continues the show's longstanding tradition of raising funds for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation (see page 57). As many within the performing community continue to feel the effects of the COVID pandemic, the Foundation's ongoing work to provide needed aid and programs to members is supported by awards show sponsors and the industry at large (see page 63). "We have always had incredible sponsors and we're so thankful for their contributions last year, which, through the Foundation, assisted many members during a time when the acting industry was forced to close," said Awards & Sponsorship Manager Sarah Barry. "Our sponsors are continuing their efforts this year, and we are thrilled to have them in our showroom once again. Guests can look forward to many exciting features, including City National Bank's Statuette Room and the all-new Engraving Station." It is also a time to honor those who exemplify the values of the union and our members. This year marks the return of the SAG Life Achievement Award presentation, with Dame Helen Mirren as the 57th recipient. "It's truly a special moment for someone to be honored by their peers in this way and recognized by the SAG Awards, not only for the incredible body of work they have, but for their humanitarian accomplishments. And what could be better than having Dame Helen in person? She's an icon," said Brockett. There's no telling what the future holds as we all try our best to adjust to the changes in our world and industry, but the 28th Annual SAG Awards ceremony reminds us how important it is to honor one another. "The SAG Awards has always been about this incredible sense of family that these actors have with each other, and knowing that we are able to bring the show back in person and see so many friends and colleagues is going to be really amazing," said Brockett. putting it together The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, offers a unique venue space for the 28th awards ceremony. 41 / SAG-AFTR A SPECIAL ISSUE 2022 / sagaftra.org BARKER HANGAR
